Canireo is the first dry food available from specialist retailers that is made exclusively from ingredients in 100% food-grade quality. This unique quality is what distinguishes it from all other dry food on the market.

We do not use any meat, bone, fish or feather meal. These meals, which are mainly used in dry food, are usually made up of so-called K3 material (waste materials that are not considered fit for human consumption) and are in no way comparable to food-grade ingredients in terms of quality (the type of quality that is permitted for human consumption).

Canireo is made exclusively from fresh meat – 64% fresh muscle meat and 1% fresh liver – complemented by lots of healthy vegetables and herbs. Nothing is cold-pressed or extruded, but instead naturally baked until crisp. All the elements that we at Terra Canis consider to be critical for dry food have been optimised in Canireo.

Canireo is made exclusively from fresh meat

The use of 64% fresh food-grade muscle meat is what sets this product apart from all other dry food products. Muscle meat is very easy for dogs to digest and its high-quality proteins supply the dog with all essential amino acids and omega-6 fatty acids. The muscle meat is complemented by 1% liver in food-grade quality, which supplies the dog with vitamin A and lots of other important nutrients in a natural way. We do not use any meat, bone, fish or feather meal, low-quality offal, slaughterhouse waste or carcasses.
To make Canireo, the fresh meat is minced, similar to the minced meat humans consume. Only in this way can it be thoroughly mixed with other ingredients and processed into a homogeneous mass.

Full power:
ensuring an optimal
protein content

The standard reference work for animal nutrition, “Small Animal Clinical Nutrition” by Thatcher, gives clear recommendations as to the optimal protein content in complete feed for dogs. This recommendation, which is used as a benchmark in veterinary medicine, recommends a protein content of 18-30% in dry food end products. In Canireo, Terra Canis aims at meeting the upper value of this recommendation, and this is what sets it apart from many other products in terms of its quality. This ideal value is achieved by using an initial raw mass of 65% fresh muscle meat in the Canireo recipe.

From the garden:
the best from
Mother Nature

In nature, wolves and wild dogs consume plant-based ingredients such as berries, herbs, grasses, roots and fruits. Dogs also need a certain amount of fibre to aid digestion, which also functions as a natural source of numerous nutrients and secondary plant substances.

For Canireo, we use pumpkin, courgette, carrots, spinach, apple, chokeberries, celery, potatoes, beetroot, apricot, parsley root and parsnip. These are carefully dried and then chopped very finely. This helps the dog’s organism to optimally absorb and metabolise the numerous vitamins and minerals.

Coconut flour:
a magical
flour

Coconut flour is a modern superfood. And not without reason: it is rich in fibre and both gluten and cholesterol-free, as well as low in carbohydrates, calories and fat. All this means that it is ideally suited to dogs who cannot digest grains or gluten. A good deed for every gut. It is highly digestible and has a positive effect on blood sugar levels.

Coconut flour contains healthy, medium-chain fatty acids (MCT) that promote the absorption of minerals and fat-soluble vitamins in food and have a demonstrable effect on regulating the metabolism. Coconut flour also contains all the essential amino acids and therefore provides a healthy source of protein for dogs in addition to the meat.

The first dry food with raw materials in
100% food-grade quality with a pure meat basis
and 64% muscle meat.

The result is a natural, crispy baked dry food of uncompromising quality. The 100% food-grade quality of all the raw materials, exclusive use of fresh meat, incorporation of 64% muscle meat and valuable coconut flour are what make Canireo unique.

Thanks to the fact that no grains are used and the product contains lots of healthy vegetables, fruit and herbs, as well as added nutrients that are completely natural, Canireo is a truly species-appropriate and near-natural dry food. Try it for yourself. The highly pleasant and tasty smell of Canireo alone reveals the vast difference in the quality of the raw materials.

Canireo is the first dry food available from German retailers that is made with 100% raw materials in food-grade quality. This means that every raw material officially meets the standards required to make it fit for human consumption at the time of processing. In general, the following applies: food-grade raw materials are much more cost-intensive than raw materials that are not of food-grade quality.

In Canireo, we use 64% muscle meat (single protein). This fresh food-grade quality meat is four times more expensive than the animal by-products, meat, bone, animal and fish meal, protein hydrolysates and non food-grade meat normally used in such products. All the vegetables, fruit and herbs used in Canireo are also of food-grade quality and therefore cost more than the non food-grade raw materials that are traditionally used in such products, such as sugar beet pulp. We also do not use any grain or thickeners in the form of wheat, rice, soy or corn meal, corn gluten or barley. These very cheap raw materials often make up a relatively large proportion of other dry food products.
If you put all these points together, it becomes clear that the costs for the raw materials used in Canireo are much higher than those used in many other dry food products. Consequently, Canireo cannot be made available at a similar price for end consumers.

Terra Canis takes dog nutrition back to its origins: in other words, back to nature – away from K3 material, low-quality by-products, vast amounts of grain, chemicals and synthetic products.
